Recognized as global pacesetter for economic generation
Round Rock, Texas – The Round Rock Chamber announced today that it has received an Excellence in Economic Development Award for its business retention and expansion and business attraction efforts. The honor, which was awarded by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), was in the multi-year economic development category for communities with populations of 25,000 to 200,000. The chamber also received recognition for its work on the Williamson County Funding Portal along with the economic development teams from Cedar Park and Georgetown.
“These awards are further validation that our economic development work is positively affecting the people and businesses of Round Rock,” said Ben White, the chamber’s vice president of economic development. “Our focus is on continuing to produce significant project wins that generate jobs, capital investment, and greater household income.”
In 2014, the chamber released the results of an economic impact analysis that evaluated its project wins from 2011 to 2014. The analysis, which was performed by Impact DataSource, looked at the performance of the chamber’s work through Momentum, its five-year public-private partnership that funds its economic development efforts.
During the time analyzed, the chamber successfully completed thirty-four economic development projects, which generated an economic impact of $1.3 billion annually. The chamber secured 2,785 direct jobs, which generated $675 million in cumulative workers’ earnings. The total number of jobs created directly, indirectly, or through induced behavior was 4,631 for a cumulative workers’ earnings of approximately $941 million. The additional revenue for the community’s three main taxing entities during the four-year analysis period equals almost $11 million. For every $1 in Momentum funding, $4,670 in economic output was produced. The study also found one new job is created per year with every $639 in Momentum funding.
“From localized community projects, to large scale endeavors, economic development efforts have played a vital role in the global economy,” saidJoAnn Crary, CEcD, Chair of the International Economic Development Council and President of Saginaw Future Inc.” As we address new and longstanding challenges, these efforts continue to take on even greater importance. The award serves as a salute to pacesetting organizations like the Round Rock Chamber for leading the charge.”
Recipients of IEDC’s Excellence in Economic Development Awards demonstrate to an experienced panel of judges that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession. They are recognized as the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders. These awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban, and rural communities.
